Rosebank is a cosmopolitan commercial and residential suburb to the north of central Johannesburg, South Africa. Lying directly between Joburg's historic city centre and the newer Sandton business district, and with a Gautrain station on its doorstep, Rosebank is one of the most popular places to be in Joburg whether for business or leisure.
Getting to the Rosebank Gautrain station is a short stroll along a Jacaranda tree-lined pedestrian walkway and the newly renovated Rosebank Mall. There is Starbucks, and a variety of up-market shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Today is a Full Day Johannesburg and Constitutional Hill.
Downtown Johannesburg is rich with historical artifacts, architecture & monuments. We will walk past and discuss some of the sites and visit a local Maboneng restaurant. Maboneng is a selection of South Africa’s favorite lunch meals like the “Kota”.
In the heart of Johannesburg is South Africa’s Constitutional Court, the highest court in the land, which can be found within the Constitution Hill precinct. In 1902, while the Old Fort was incarcerating white prisoners, additional sections, known as Numbers Four and Five, were established to house black political activist prisoners such as Barbara Hogan, Fatima Meer, Albertina Sisulu and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
These sections held large communal cells that were overcrowded, rife with disease, and quickly governed by complicated and pervasive gangs that still exist within South Africa’s prison system today.
The site served as a prison and briefly as a military fort for 100 years, incarcerating men, women and even children within its walls. Its long-standing history of incarceration and abuse is today laid bare for all to see.

Soweto (acronym for SOuth WEstern TOwnship) where we'll visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, and discover the cause of the tragic riots which led to his death. We also visit Mandela House and maybe pass by the house of Bishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu.
SoWeTo is unlike any suburb you’ve ever seen or been visited, yet the history of struggle encapsulated here is a cornerstone of the South African story.
SOUTH WESTERN TOWNSHIPS (SoWeTo) was established in 1930s to separate blacks from the white community in Johannesburg. It became the center of political campaigns aimed at the overthrow of the apartheid state. The 1976 student uprising, also known as the Soweto uprising, started in Soweto and spread to the rest of the country. Many of the sights on the heritage route have political significance.
The experience at the Apartheid Museum showcases exhibits that have been assembled and organized by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers.
They include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels and artefacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the horrific period in South African history, known as APARTHEID.

Robben Island is known for being the place former South African president Nelson Mandela was jailed for 18 of his 27 years, but the Island was the home of prisoners from outside South Africa, notably Namibia.
Namibia was a German colony until World War I; when Germany was defeated in the war, Namibia was administered by South Africa as a de facto overseas province of South Africa, and any political agitation in Namibia was punished by South Africa.
We will also experience "The Long March to Freedom” display and Robben Island Museum.

Sanctuary Mandela celebrates the life of iconic freedom fighter, peacemaker, statesman, and father of the South African nation, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (1918-2013). While staying at the hotel, guests can immerse themselves in the spirit of a leader known to the world as Madiba, or simply Tata.
Paying homage to Madiba’s depth of character and contemplative spirit, Sanctuary Mandela is surrounded by lush gardens and retreat spaces filled with perfectly curated exhibits that pay tribute to the human rights activist, former president, and global icon, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Every corner of the boutique hotel is envisaged to provide the perfect combination of tranquility, heritage and mindful experiences.
